Title: I need to find a Rubicon Shunt
Post by: Hawaii596 on 08-07-2008 -- 09:44:42
I vaguely recall this brand name, but don't have a clue about them.

I have a cal where I need a 10 milli-Ohm 50 Amp shunt.  According to an OEM certificate, they apparently used a RUBICON shunt.

Does anyone know if the company is still around?  Or, does anyone know an OEM that makes one.  I have a PDF data sheet for Simpson shunts, and they don't have 10 milli-Ohm / 50 Amp.

Try R.A.M Meter.  They may have it and if not they certainly can special make one for a reasonable price.

I just went to their website www.rammeter.com and sent them an online email.  We'll see what they can find.  Thanks for the input.  I hadn't heard of them.

You could try Ohm-Labs.  They make a nice 0. 01% 50A 10mOhm shunt.   It's based on the Julie.  http://www.ohm-labs.com

Another possibilty might be emproshunts.com.
You are looking for a 0.5V @ 50 A shunt, they list 0.1 & 0.05 V (100mV/50mV FS)
but also state they can design specials.

You can also try Measurements International: www. mintl. com

Model 9332 - Custom values available.

Regarding the Empros.  I have the data sheet for the Simpson series.  I'll have to look around, as it seemed to me (maybe wrong) that Simpson and Empro (regarding the shunts) was the same. I'll take a look though.  Empro level of accuracy would definitely be fine.  We have a Guardian 5000 hi voltage/current tester where you have to use 10 milli-Ohms at 50 Amps for one of the tests.  We have oodles of shunts (4 different Empros, a Ballantine box, a few assorted hi wattage Dale Resistors, etc.), but I haven't found a good one of the above variety.

By the way, I've checked out the links in the previous posts.  I hadn't been to Ohm-labs before.  They have a lot of neat stuff.

I wonder (regarding the high giga ohm resistors they sell), are they the ones who took over for who ever it was that used to sell those littlel bakelite resistors of that flavor years ago?

Anyway, thanks for the inputs.
