Title: Current Shunt

I'm looking for a traceable DC current shunt calibration procedure. I have an Empro 5091-600-600 shunt, 600A/600mV. I have read several papers regarding calibration. I'm specifically looking to use a small, 6A, DC power supply, a 8846A and a "gold" standard shunt. I'm looking for an equipment diagram.

You really need GIDEP.

The procedure you want is basic but because there are liability/safety issues involved it isn't likely anyone will provide a procedure here.

That said, you need a large, stable power supply and something like a Guildline 9211 standard shunt.

Jay Klevens wrote a paper titled "Calibrating DC Current Shunts: Techniques and Uncertainties" That is usually the first thing that pops up in a Google search. So, you probably already read that one. Still a good paper to read. And it has pictures! I've spoken with a couple manufacturers of common DC Current shunts. They do not, in most cases, calibrate to 2/3 rated current. So obviously, the resistance of the shunt will change due to the current applied heating the shunt.  briansalomon is right, you need more current for better accuracy.
