For all you non-AF metrology types, just got this e-mail down about the cost of the ASQ certification for members of the armed forces (don't know if this includes guard/reserve).

(ASQ is willing to offer a special rate for our CCT exam to members of the armed forces of only $105 - that is significantly cheaper than our regular member rate of $155. In fact, the $105 rate is equal to our normal re-take of the exam.)
I do not know if your websites would be the proper vehicle to inform metrology professionals within the different arms of the military of this special offer just for them. Perhaps there is a better person I could talk to (or a better resource) to use for getting news of this offer to interested persons.
I'd appreciate any and all help that you may be able to provide to me in this regard.

This guy is saying that they are going to give a disount for those in the armed forces, yet he uses a contract lab as an example. My question is, Are they talking about giving Armed Forces Calibration people the disount???? Or talking about giving those that work in Armed Forces Calibration Labs the disount??
I have no problem with the armed services getting a discount. Just curious before I pay my $155 for my exam.
Oh yeah I heard from someone I used to work with in the Navy about this exam as he has taken and passed it. He said it is one of the most difficult exams he has ever taken.
I fixed the link (it lumped the parenthesis and period into the URL).
My understanding is that if you work for the military in any way (active duty, contractor, or civil service) that you are eligible for the discount. I'm not 100%, but that's the way I read it. If you get clarification, please let us know.

You should see if the VA will compensate for that certification test.
I took certification test for A+ computer repair (2 tests, $145 each) and Microsoft Exams ($100-$125 each) and the VA compensated them all 100%!

I don't know if they would since you are already discounted as a member and also due to the fact that this is an organization and not a educational thing. Though as they say.....can't hurt to ask.

The $100 Microsoft exams were at a discounted price when I paid for them. They compensate only what you pay, so the discounted amount is what I was reimbursed for.
The VA compensation is listed is for Licensing and Compensation. The certifications I took were created by CompTIA and Microsoft, not based on any educational organization. They were so I could recieve A+ certification and Microsoft's MCSE and MCDBA certifications. I did take classes, but I still could've received VA compensation whether I enrolled in a class or not.

I got an email from that guy and he thought it was for all that work in the labs. He is checking with the certification department to make sure. I do hope so....as I always like to pay less if I can.
Maybe there does need to be certification, however, I am older than dirt, almost. It has not been too many years since there was nothing online about PMEL or metrology, and most people thought we were weathermen.
So I have a problem with some yahoo offering certification to people like us that have been doing it for many years. Presumptuous twits.

Haven't seen a need for it here, but then, I'm another of the older than dirt, long school PMEL types (class of Feb 70).
