Well folks, a while back I was glancing at the retraining list and noticed that a couple of TSgt slots for 9S100 were open.  Some of you may remember it as Applied Geophysics but it's been renamed Technical Applications Specialist now.  I've always kind of been interested in it and from what I can find on the internet, it seems like a pretty cool job.  So I put in the request to retrain.

After jumping through some hoops, I got this today:

Your Retraining Application Status is APPROVED - AFPC(6) as of 17 FEB 2009.
Projected Course Start Date: 23 MAR 2009

So it looks like I may be leaving the PMEL career field for a while.  I do still have to get a TS clearance, but if that goes well, I will be moving on.  To bigger and better things hopefully.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know.  I don't have any major plans to abandon the site, but I may not have much input (like I do now anyway) in the future.  If anyone has any info they'd like to share on my new job (knew somebody in it or whatever) let me know.  I'll keep you informed...

Good luck old man...I think you'll find cross training broadening, I know I gained from being in different career fields, although I've always preferred PMEL.

Have a blast

Well, it may only be a drive across town...  Half of the career field is stationed at Patrick.  And that's what I put as #1 on my dream sheet.

And I thought they were only "encouraging" the Army calibrators to reclass/tread/crosstrain.......

Keep your tweaker handy, they might realize they made a mistake and take ya back  :-D

The job description was interesting. Was this something you wanted to do for a while?

Yeah, it's something I've been looking at whenever I check out the retraining situation.  Seemed like a pretty cool job, so I just went for it...

Just an update...

I got my class start date changed to 1 June and will be leaving Keesler around 22 May.  It is a PCS due to length and I would have only had about 14 duty days to outprocess and report to Goodfellow.  So, I lobbied Randolph and thankfully, they moved me into the next class.

So I am now in the process of teaching my last TACAN class and will focus on outprocessing when that is complete.

I still don't know where I'll end up after school.  I will take 1 of 4 classes after the fundamental course and which one depends on where you get stationed and what you are going to be doing.  In talking to the training manager for the course, he told me that at some point AFPC folks will visit and I will find out which of the 4 shreds I will be and get an assignment at that point.  So, more to follow on that...

Also, I really don't know what my arrangements are going to be like when I do go.  My family is staying here and won't actually move until the end of next school year (May 2010).  So my oldest can graduate HS.  My plan is to get a small, furnished place and live cheaply, so I don't know about my internet situation.  I'm sure I'll be able to get access here and there, so I'll be able to keep in touch.  Just not sure to what extent right now.

Anyway, it should be an adventure and I'll keep you guys up to date as much as I can.
