Desired skills: Experience in instrumentation control utilizing programming language/environments (MetCal, Agilent VEE, SureCal, LabView).  Test Engineering experience with the use of RF/Microwave and general purpose electronics test equipment, electrical standards and working knowledge in vibration, mechanical, temperature, humidity and fiber optics.  Understanding of developing uncertainly calibration measurements.  Prior experience with ANSI Z540, ISO/IEC 10012 and ISO 17025.  Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.  May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies. 
Specific Job Description Position is for an Electronics Metrologist to support the metrology organization at MS2 Syracuse facility.  Develop procedures and processes for calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment on Electrical/Electronic/RF Test & Measurement Equipment (T&ME) such as, but not limited to: waveform, microwave, time & frequency, phase, analog, oscilloscope, and digital calibrations.  Analyze system errors, interpret and utilize NIST and/or other International Standards Organization (ISO) or other reports and corrections for any level of calibration and measurement.  Maintain current knowledge of all electrical/electronic equipment and measurement techniques to perform state-of-the-art measurements.
Perform the following duties for the Metrology laboratory functions: develop software and manual calibration procedures/repair techniques for new types of instruments; maintain and update changes to existing calibration procedures by determining substitution of instruments, supporting equipment, and methods; determine range and accuracy requirements of laboratory equipment necessary to perform valid calibrations and/or repairs.
Generate and proof testing of new calibration procedures, reviews, and updates of old procedures to reflect new technology and/or equipment improvements.  Develop new calibration and/or repair techniques and substitution of instruments and components.  Perform and maintain uncertainty analysis, reports, and check standards for the accreditation in measurement parameters.  Develop procedures for test and check standard data to meet accreditation standards.  Prepare trend charts for the calibration reference and check standards.
Participate in Government and commercial audits, assessments, and round robins such as the MIP (Measurement Intercomparison Program), MAP (Measurement Audit Program), and accreditation audit programs.  Indentify instruments which can no longer be maintained within specified tolerances or operate throughout a specified range and recommend appropriate solution such as retirement, duration, limited performance, etc.  Investigate out-of-tolerance conditions for laboratory standards to determine impacts to workload processed.  Participate in equipment capital planning activities
Utilize the calibration management system in the performance of duties.
As directed, perform necessary liaison with company and vendor personnel to investigate instrument malfunctions or measurement problems.  Provide guidance and assistance to Associates and other employees, and perform related duties, as required. 
Standard Job Description Develops and evaluates calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure.  Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.  Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.
