I'm sure that I'm one of the last to hear about this, but I thought that it was worth posting.

QuoteOn 19 April 2006, a ceremony was held to activate the 562d Combat Sustainment Group, the 562d Combat Sustainment Support Squadron and the 588th Combat Sustainment Squadron.  Thus, we are no longer known as AFMETCAL Det 1.

The 562d Combat Sustainment Group, is charged with managing the Air Force Metrology and Calibration (AFMETCAL) Program.  The 562 Combat Sustainment Support Squadron provides support for daily operation of the AFMETCAL program to include staff support, manpower, financial and strategic planning and analysis, contracting, and support of organizational communications and computer systems.  The 588th Combat Sustainment Squadron serves as the technical authority for the AFMETCAL Program providing PMELs the measurement capability to support the Air Force mission by researching measurement requirements and developing measurement philosophies, concepts, and techniques.

Over the next several weeks, changes will take place on both MetWeb and our public web page as we update pages to remove references to AFMETCAL Det 1 and replace them with the 562d Combat Sustainment Group.

What? Combat? Your working for the Air Force. Hahahaha :-D

"Combat Sustainment" has a different meaning in the Air Force- it means keeping the beer cold at the NCO Club for the working class while the pilots deliver "shock and awe" to the customers...  You don't want a grumpy NCO working on your plane, hence the cold beer!
If it works, it's a Fluke.

That's "Freakin' Zoomies" SIR!

No, we don't fight like the Marines do, but you have to appreciate the beauty of our base golf courses... :-)  Those air conditioned club houses really feel nice after a hard afternoon on a freshly-mown course...  Of course, it's harder to get the grass to grow nice in Iraq, but our Civil Engineering folks are the best, and they'll get it to work eventually...
If it works, it's a Fluke.

Wow. This is the first I've heard of this. This news han't even reached my workplace place yet. I shouldn't be surprised Though. My base is full of a bunch of self-important a-holes who think they're above the rest of the Air Force. Civil Service...you've got to take the good with the bad, and usually it's just really bad. :-(

Does this mean a newer, kinder, gentler set of auditors, or are we just screwed with a new name? :?

Hoopty

I'm pretty sure it's just a re-org and name change.

AGMC was an ok acronym, but AFMETCAL flowed even better... what are we gonna call 'em now?  What can we make out of 562d CSG??

Does that make them Combat Metrologists? :-D

...add that to the list of favorite oxymorons!

You know its a mouthful to say that any time you want to get your point across that you talked to someone at the Combat Sustainment Group.  Just like in the days when we corrected you our older metrology stateman that it is no longer 35-10 or no longer AGMC, soon the people coming in will start to call me  an old timer for referring to itas AFMETCAL.  Man am I getting old.
