If you have a Fluke 9500 that is coming due calibration I recommend you add a 250k Ohm Calibration point to the resistance test points.. The newer scope procedures from Tektronix are adding a this test point to their verification procedures.

The 9500 does not spec this test point, so we have been working with our customers to test this point and establish the uncertainties.  What we have found is the 250k Ohm measurement uses the same range as the 1M Ohm measurement.  We have been successful testing this point to the same specifications as the 1M Ohm specs.

If you have any questions drop me a line.

I wonder why the added point.  I cal my 9500's, and do a check at 50 Ohms and 1 Megohms, I thought because it is only used to verify input impedance at those two values.

This does not apply to the 9500B

Mine are the older Wavetek 9500 (no "B").  9500/3200 systems.

Yes, I recommend you add the test point to both the 9500 and the 9500B.

Tektronix is adding these points to because there is a probe that wants 250k impedance to operate properly.

Got it.  I just haven't seen one of those yet.  BTW, I wore, for the first time, my CALlAB magazine shirt yesterday.  Very nice.  Black, Short sleeve button down with pocket and CALLAB logo.  I had it in the package and just found it.

Mike, You're right! Pulled the cert and there isn't a 250KOhm test point--left myself a note to request it next cal cycle---btw, where is my shirt!

CalLabSolutions

Glad to hear you like the shirt Hawaii.

RF.. You have to write an article for Cal Lab Magazine to get a shirt, hat or pull over.  I wanted them to say "I was published in Cal Lab Magazine."

And yes, there are some labs out there that are running on assumptions they are not validating their software and missing big things like 250k test points.

Oops.  Didn't mean to cause a stir.  I wrote an article for Cal Lab Magazine.  I have a framed copy in my office.  If I can think of another one, perhaps I'll get to write another one day.

Ill write an article on Torque Wrench calibration! PM me with details, Id love the opportunity.  Im a 3rd year mechanical engineering student as well so it may be useful to be published..  8-)
