Seems taking a break from Metrology was a big mistake. Have applied to several job listing but no response.

It seems to me that 7 years really doesnt put you to far behind the technology curve.  If you are near Atlanta you should be able to get a job.  Try TMI or Tektronix Service Soloutions. You wont be starting out at a senior level but if you want to get your foot back in the door you should easily be able to.
