CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN / ASSISTANT QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER

Thunder Scientific Corporation, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and trained Calibration Technician/Assistant Quality Assurance Manager for our calibration laboratory located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Thunder Scientific is recognized as the world's leading manufacturer of NIST-proven, two-pressure humidity calibration systems.  We are an ISO 17025 and ANSI Z540 accredited company, specializing in humidity, temperature, and pressure calibrations.  As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in a first-class calibration laboratory environment for a quality focused company that encourages employee empowerment and customer satisfaction.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

Calibration Technician (approx. 80% of time)
To accomplish the alignment, repair, modification, inspection, calibration and certification of Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) to comply with technical specifications, engineering drawings, and manufacture's tolerance with accuracies traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  Additional duties include daily laboratory operations to include environmental monitoring, uncertainty calculations, new procedure development, compliance with quality system requirements, troubleshooting and repairs, on-site calibrations at customer locations and participation in ongoing projects to improve and expand laboratory capabilities and infrastructure. 

Assistant Quality Manager (approx. 20% of time)
Following the Quality Manager's instructions, ensure documentation and design controls are revised and implemented as required.  Plans and initiates all quality-based audits and management reviews.  Reports results to management and others as warranted.  Apprises TSC senior managers of all customer interactions/communications and ensures satisfactory resolution.  Oversees all employees, quality-related training.  Maintains employee-training records across TSC.  Oversees and facilitates all corrective actions requests and activities.   


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

1.   It is desirable for the incumbent to be a graduate of a Department of Defense Metrology and Calibration formal training course or have equivalent civilian formal training in the field of metrology.

2.   Minimum four (4) years of experience as a Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) technician and assistant Quality Assurance Program Manager/Evaluator.  Experience shall include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE and laboratory working standards using safe working practices and utilizing the required documents/procedures.

3.   Minimum (2) years of experience working in a PMEL Quality Assurance Department is preferred but not required.


BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1.   Thorough understanding in the care and use of TMDE.

2.   Good working knowledge of the calibration and maintenance of physical, dimensional, mechanical and TMDE and calibration laboratory measurement standards.

3.   Good working knowledge of electrical, electronics, electro/mechanical, mechanical, physics, and thermal principles; mathematics and number systems.

4.   Knowledge of electrical theory, electronics and/or physics, and operating principles of TMDE.

5.   Knowledge required to read, interpret/analyze block, schematic and wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical publications.

6.   Proficiency in troubleshooting techniques, calibration traceability, metrology techniques and safe laboratory practices.

7.   Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540 publications a plus.

8.   Strong Computer skills including MS Office (Word and Excel) and Database (QT9 QMS System).

9.   Must have strong customer service skills (verbal and written) and be able to work independently.

10.   Prior experience as a Calibration Laboratory Quality Manager is a strong plus, but not required.

11.   Once trained, some travel will be required (approx. one week every two to three months) to facilitate on-site calibrations of Thunder Scientific products.
