I'm curious... Does having an AFMETCAL, QA, or QAE presence on this site affect the way you post in the forums?  More specifically, do you feel like you can't or shouldn't post certain things in the forums, because your boss or an auditor may be reading it?

Please take a second to participate in this poll.  All votes are anonymous.

Thanks,

Jesse

I do have a question.   Being pretty new to this place, I have wandeered through your halls and checked postings.  This forum is not provided my the schoolhouse is it?  And how did it come about?
It has not been that many years when if you typed PMEL into one of the search engines, it would come up blank.

There is some info on the main page for you to peruse. This is a non official site that is currently hosted by a NCO stationed at Keesler teaching or soon to be at Wolf Hall - I think.

Flamy is correct.

The forum is not official and the only affiliation it has with the schoolhouse is that I am currently stationed there.  It is basically a hobby and all costs come out of my pocket.  I've set up a couple of relationships with sponsors and several members have helped out by signing up for free trials or making their Amazon purchases via the forum.  They basically help defray the annual costs...  (click the link in my signature for more info)

Well, that is a good question.  It really all started when I registered my first domain name, which I did for e-mail purposes only.  Once I had it hosted and started poking around, I realized it was fairly easy to set up stuff like forums.  Everybody pretty much knew about pmel.org, which was a nice site, but its content was static and didn't get updated very often.  I thought that a PMEL forum might be cool because of the interactivity it would provide and it would also be dynamic, which would allow it to grow and evolve with the career field.

My first effort was a basic forum only.  Within a couple of days, one of our first members suggested that I use a content management system (CMS) instead.  The CMS is what integrates the forum with the rest of the content and really allows for a "community feel" vs. plain old forum.  I definitely liked that option, and decided to go with that.  (Thanks evit!)

The first version of PMEL Forum lasted until May of this year when it had to be scrapped due to security concerns within the forum scripts.  Luckily, along the way, I've managed to pick up quite a bit of knowledge of databases, MySQL, HTML, CSS's, PHP, etc... and armed with this knowledge I was able to convert most everything over to the new CMS and forum with little trouble.

And basically, that's where we are today... PMEL Forum 2.0.  Hopefully providing the metrology community with a useful tool and a quality website.

I'm playing the QA manager again, and the Microwave Supervisor.  I'll just have to rat me out to me, huh?
I don't have a Big Brother.  I am he.
Paranoia Poll...
It's okay to be ignorant, as you can always ask questions, but there is no cure for stupidity.

Well...Flynn and I just got outed as AFMETCAL Special Forces. Yes, we have seen Big Brudda, and he is us. Not to be confused with Bo and Luke. 8-)
