Has anyone been to USA jobs lately, they have WG-13 jobs listed from oct 07 with a closing date of May 08.  I am wondering if this has anything to do with rumors going around about many labs converting back to blue suit and/or Civil Service? Actually I am guesiing as well, does anyone have any clue what this is about?

Are there really rumors out there about some labs going back blue suit?  Or are they just coming about because of these job listings?
There are only 10 types of people in this world.  Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Well yeah I had heard that b/c they dissatisfied with some of the contracts but still it is just a rumor.  As for the USA jobs postings, some jobs are legit, but from what I understand they are merely creating a database of qualified people and also sort of a advanced reruitment type thing.
I talked with my boss who talked to the FAM and he said there is no big change going on, so basically my question was answered, simplay long term recruitment and a database building I guess.
Hope this helps, hopefully I didn't start any new rumors.  :)

Yes, don't get too excited about the listings.  I didn't look to close at any of them but what they are doing is making a register.  Most times when an announcement has a long application time and a lot of locations it's just to come up with an eligibility list.  If you look at the listing it also states that you could be offered any job in the 2600 series of jobs.  It may also turn out to be an ART job (need to join the guard/reserves).   It is a good start if you're looking to get into C. S.  You wouldn't want to stay a Wage Grade though; they are an endangered species in the Government.
As far as going back to a Blue Suit/Civil Service operation, I'm not sure it can be done by law.  But I have read they are looking into changing that.

I wouldn't put to much faith in what your FAM tells you.  Last spring when we heard rumors the lab at Clear AFS was going to close, and all the work be sent to Eielson, our FAM and everyone else assured us there was just some routine number crunching going on and we had nothing to worry about.  6 months later we were closed.

They're restricted in what they can tell a contractor, even if they want to.  The last thing the AF wants is to see all the talent leave their contract labs early when they find out the ax is coming.  Officially we got almost no notice but had turned over enough rocks to figure out what was going on long before they told us.

I don't know what is going on with the job postings either and had posted some information on it awhile back.

The hiring process has changed for AFPC Randolph thru the USAJOBS website.  When positions are advertised, they are now announced as a general job description for various locations and paygrades.  Stay tuned, because the process will change again later this year with AFPC using a different system once again.
