Job Summary: The Electrical Metrology Engineer is the resident expert in his/her field.   Conducts research and studies new equipment to ensure that the latest developments in technique and equipment are in included in metrology planning for future acquisition.   Assists in the development and implementation of a Metrology Quality Assurance (QA) Program as required.   Assists in obtaining and maintaining laboratory QA accreditation. 

TASK PREREQUISITES:

Principal Accountabilities:
•              Assesses requirements and develops new measurement techniques and approaches related to electrical, electronic and microwave measurement areas.   
•              Develops, tests and evaluates new calibration methodology as well as performs analysis and evaluation of equipment.
•              Establishes test and performance criteria and prescribes calibration approaches, tests, equipment and servicing requirements necessary to ensure measurement traceability.   
•              Directs, conducts and evaluates the development of calibration procedures for assigned equipment.   
•              Conducts liaison and coordinates with technical societies and engineering facilities of other countries to remain current with state-of-the-art and new measurement techniques.   
•              Submits Reports and Action Requests as required. 
•              Perform other duties as assigned.
Management Responsibilities: Manager or Supervisory roles only

Physical Requirements:
Some work outside with temperatures reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit

Experience Required:
•              Completed a four (4) year degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, physics or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
•              Eight (8) years work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards OR
•              Completed a U. S.  military precision measurement and calibration school and have twelve (12) years work experience in the calibration field AND
•              Eight (8) years experience in technical oversight, measurement assurance and training responsibilities of calibration and repair technicians, with at least (3) years within the last five (5) years OR .
•              Completed a precision measurement and calibration school at an accredited school, or within a specialized calibration firm, and have ten (10) years work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards AND
•              Have experience in researching, developing, documenting and testing measurement methodologies including developing, correcting, modifying and testing calibration maintenance procedures for precision measuring equipment according to U. S.  Navy METCAL or equivalent requirements AND
•              Have experience in researching requirements and maintaining calibration laboratory facility and related environmental control systems. 

Education Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience/Education Preferred:
Eight (8) years work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards
