U.S. Government Officially Recognizes Calibration Occupations - 22 July 2016
Important Day in Metrology today. The US Government (US Department of Labor) officially recognizes Calibration Occupations. This effort was spearheaded by ASQ Measurement Quality Division for the last 20 years under the relentless effort of Christopher Grachanen. The fruits of the labor are paying off. This means metrology professionals will no longer be classified as "meter checker" and other absurd descriptions when they get hired. HR department in your company will be able to classify you under the special description befitting the calibration profession. Career counselors will be able to look up the profession in Standard Occupational Code (SOC) to advise high school seniors on career choices. There is comment period before this gets finalized and we will seek input from our profession. Watch for more details. Come talk to us at ASQ MQD booth during the NCSLI conference in St. Paul.
