WANTED: INSTRUMENT CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN

Company:  J&M is a small, independently owned corporation based in Orchard Park, New York, a suburb of Buffalo, New York. The organization provides ISO 17025 Accredited calibration services to a wide array of businesses that include the following industries: pharmaceutical manufacturing; automotive manufacturing; aircraft maintenance; petroleum production; municipal waste; research & development laboratories; chemical production; precision machining operations; mold making; power production & distribution; energy management; and others. Services are offered in the following disciplines: pressure; temperature; torque; force; electronics; gas flow and others. On-site calibration is provided throughout the W. N. Y. area while the geographical areas outside of Western New York are serviced through the use of common carriers. Essential Job Functions,
1.   Perform calibration and repair services on a wide variety of instrument types. Some assigned tasks may require you to work on the project as an individual while others tasks may require you to work as a member of a calibration team.
a.   Calibrate instrumentation as directed by the shop supervisor or to maintain delivery requirements per the current shop schedule;
b.   Request repair parts;
c.   Follow written procedures;
d.   Follow verbal instructions;
e.   Provide equipment failure analysis;
f.   Call manufacturer's to obtain information on parts or procedures;
g.   Ship shop orders when completed, (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc.);
h.   Provide job related time computations;
i.   Submit to company sponsored drug testing when required;
j.   Work overtime hours when necessary;
k.   Work weekends or holidays when required;
l.   Work second or third shift when required; (shift differential pay compensation provided)
2.   Work without assistance in areas of proven competence
a.   Interface with customer's representatives;
b.   Maintain contact with calibration supervisor;
3.   Professional Growth
a.   Attend company sponsored training sessions;
b.   Participate in on-the-job training sessions;
c.   Obtain additional training through the use of professional organizations, institutions of higher learning, home study programs, etc;
4.   Answer phones when necessary.
a.   Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary;
b.   Converse with clients;
c.   Converse with vendors;
5.   Maintain laboratory & safety equipment
a.   Perform maintenance and calibration on company equipment within the scope of knowledge required or when under direct supervision;

a.   Be respectful of our customer's personnel;
b.   Dress neatly to match the work situation, (J&M provided uniforms), and the safety aspects of the job;
c.   Provide reliable personal transportation when required;
d.   Have a good driving record;
e.   Properly maintain and wear all appropriate safety equipment while on the job to help prevent serious injury to self or others, (J&M provided safety equipment);
7.   Protect J&M's and our customer's confidential information and products
8.   Help improve company operations
a.   Submit procedure / work instructions and/or revision recommendations to the quality manager;
b.   Submit new equipment recommendations that may help to improve work efficiency, job performance, etc;
c.   Provide the sales staff with information on new sales opportunities;
9.   Employee Growth
a.   Employ self training techniques through home studies;
b.   Obtain the training necessary to learn the duties of positions within the progression of the job description;
10.   Minimum Required Education
a.   Associates Degree or equivalent;
11.   Experience Required
a.   Five or more years experience in the field of calibration and/or instrument repair. A combination of education and experience may be considered;
b.   Good computer skills required with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. Advanced computer skills are a plus.
