Well, as I post this message, it appears that Ivan is bearing down on the Miss. gulf coast. Me and the family aren't taking any chances and will be heading for higher ground, so don't worry about us.  Hopefully the damage, wherever it hits, will be limited and we all have homes to come back to.  Keep all of us gulf coast residents in your thoughts and I'll see ya in a few days.

Good Luck to you and yours. I hope everything is okay when you return. Be sure and keep us posted.

Thanks Aaron,
It looks like Biloxi was spared while the Fl panhandle got the brunt of the storm.  I haven't seen much reports on the damage, but I hope it is minimal.  For a cat 4/3 hurricane, so far anyway, it looks like it wasn't as destructive as it could have been.

I'm attaching a picture I snapped somewhere in Hattiesburg.  It took me 6 hours to get only about 80 miles.  I hear it was even worse later that day and on into the next.

Oh boy, that looks like fun...I don't even like the traffic on the way to work at 6:30 am.

I made it back and I'll have to say it was much better coming back than going!  The wife and kids went to Tulsa to stay with family the day before the order to evacuate.  Knowing that I might have to come back before them, I ended up stopping at Little Rock AFB and luckily managed a room in billeting.

All I have seen for damage around here is some metal roofing blown up and highway signs blown over.   Alot of leaves and such around the base, but I think we were pretty lucky here.  I hope all you guys at Eglin and other affected bases made it through ok.

I retract my previous statement.  After seeing some footage, it looks pretty bad to the East of here.

It was pretty bad in the panhandle and Gulf Shores area. I believe that as of now Ivan has killed over 100 people total. The Escambia Bay bridge is missing major section of it. I hear also that parts of three mile bridge are missing. People are saying that the Gulf Shores area and places real close had a 15-20' storm surge. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that have been in the path of this storm.

Eglin didn't get hurt to bad, trees down and power outages were about it.  Right Along the coast is a different story, lots of damage.  I belive the only people we lost (the base) were two people that had evacuated to South Carolina and got killed in a mud slide caused by Ivan's rain.. tragic.

The lab here had minor water damage to the floors.  Glad to hear Keesler made it alright, looks like pensicola took the hardest blow, poor navy guys.  Worst thing is that he might be coming around for another pass, also over 700 people died in haiti when jeanne hit.. WOW.  Hope she stays away.
