Yulista is seeking a qualified PMEL technician to fill the following vacancy.

Electronic Technician Maintenance II
Position requires extensive knowledge, preferably minimum of 4 years in the USAF metrology program, in the K6 Physical/Dimensional section of the PMEL.  Primary responsibilities include calibration/repair of the K6 standards as well as basic K5 Temperature and K6 TMDE.  Experience shall include a minimum of four years inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE, metrology laboratory working standards and safe work practices/procedures.  Knowledge of the USAF metrology and quality program is desired.

Position includes lucrative salary, benefits package, and relocation allowance.

Used to live in Waipahu and Ewa Beach many years ago.  We went up to Oahu last year and stayed in Makaha for a break.  Noticed that almost everything in Hawaii was cheaper than here in Oz....go for it Spacenut.....

What is the outlook for the PACAF contract, heard some rumors that the government may be considering insourcing these labs?  Any info would be appreciated.

I've heard the rumor too about the contract labs going back to blue suit.  My source said it came from an AFMETCAL auditor.  What I was told was that they wanted a mix of military and civil service at each lab.  I know the goal at one time was to go from 1,400 military down to 700.  I don't know where they are as far as numbers now.  I have heard complaints that the military labs are undermanned right now.  Now if they decide to go back to military, where are they going to get those other 700 bodies?  I'm figuring they are going to force people back into the career field.  I doubt they will bring back any of us old retired farts.  Not saying it can't be done but it sounds like it will be a tough transition.

I used to love it out there.  I was next door on the Naval Station.  If not for the excruciating cost of living compared with the pay, I would love to go back one day (not looking currently - just loved Hawaii).

From what I've heard, it's Hickam only.  Starts 1 Oct.

I hope they will transition current contract workers to civil service position as part of restructuring.
