Software in the cal lab is always one of my favorite topics. Over my long career which started with hand written cards I've seen and worked with many different systems and even developed a system used in a company I founded and now used by two other labs. Over the years the importance of software systems to manage not only the assets and operations but also the automation, generation and management of uncertainties, TUR's, etc. has required the reliance on a well thought out software solution. with the small number of off the shelf solutions available many companies small and large have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at developers in order to develop internal solutions to a very complicated problem with various levels of sucess and failure. Many of the so-called off the shelf solutions are really just electronic files for storing the data we once put on paper and cards and rely on spreadsheets and other software systems to feed data. There is however 1 package that brings a solution while not 100% but does cover most of the problems we encounter each day. Edison ESI MudCats is unique. I have implemented this in a past lab and operated a high volume diverse lab for over 5 years and am now involved with moving to MudCats once again (thank God). If any Metrologist islooking for a software solution look at this program, look at all of the features, the science. Think of how many of the spreadsheets we can retire.

First off, If you are working with any cal lab, you should already know what is the best software. SureCal is very nice and when you have the service support package, you will get the updates, Fluke has the 9640A ie the replacement of the 3335A, 8662A, and the 8663A. Never had the 8663A Opt 64, sure liked them though, ElectroRent in the 90s. Got two Fluke 9640 LPNs and they are sure fine!

USMC kalibrater

Ill take Metcal over Surecal everyday of the week including hangover days and Federal Holidays.
