First, I'm not a MetCal programming expert.  I am at best, a novice "hunt-and-peck" user.  I can go in and do a few basic things.  We have numerous procesures that use the Fluke 5500A and 5520A (of which we have both instruments in lab).  We are using MetCal 8.0.51 I believe (for reference).

I think I understand correctly that there is a way to set up aliases so that for example, I have a procedure that uses a Fluke 5500A, and I have available a Fluke 5520A.  I was thinking that (for example) I could in the alias box for instrument configuration for the 5520A, include the alias "5500" and use the 5520A in that procedure.  But reading some of the literature, it looks like you have to have written the procedure for flex standards where the  procedure calls for a generic instrument type, and what ever instruments are configured as such can be used.

So I won't waste any more time in a fruitless pursuit, can I alias a 5500A for 5520A or vice versa?  If so, how do I do it?  If it means the procedure has to be written differently, sounds like a little much work.  If there is something fairly simple to do, I'd like to figure it out.

I know the 5522A can be used in place of the 5520A.. But I don't think the 5522A will work (Automated) in place of the 5500A.   At least not if the procedure was written using the 55xx FCS's.

My situation involves only the 5500A and 5520A.  Not sure how much difference that makes.

The answer is no. Metcal will come back with an ID querry and it will pick up the model number of the std used. I have tried to do the samr to no avail.

It's easier to clone the 5500 procedure then search and replace 5500 with 5520. then test run it to find  and fix the incompatibilities.
